Agency launches new assessor education initiatives

The Aged Care Standards and Accreditation Agency Ltd is now offering courses in assessing for accreditation as part of its industry education program.

Chief Executive Officer of the Agency, Mr Mark Brandon said the courses - the assessor course and the aged care quality assessment course - are for those who are interested in either becoming registered aged care quality assessors, or who want to conduct their own audits in their own homes.

"The aged care quality assessment course prepares participants for registration as assessors, so that they may conduct assessments for the Agency.

"The assessor course has been developed in direct response to the feedback we've received from the industry that they would like to know more about accreditation auditing so that they can assess their own homes against the Accreditation Standards.

"They want to be able to assure themselves that residents are receiving the very best levels of care and that the home is meeting its obligations for continuous improvement outside the audit cycle," Mr Brandon said.

"This is a great opportunity for the industry to learn about the fundamentals of the legislative requirements, conducting an audit and evidence collection, as well as reporting on an audit.

"Senior Agency assessors who have a wealth of knowledge in assessment and experience in adult learning, will facilitate these courses," Mr Brandon said.

"The result of more people knowing more about requirements of accreditation can only be seen as good news for residents of aged care homes.
