Resident-run activities group

The knitting group meets weekly in the activities room. They started knitting teddy bears in all colours, taking on special orders for favourite colours and team colours.

In 2004, 100 teddies were made, and donated to four hospitals and the Royal Flying Doctor Service. These were used as ‘trauma teddies’ for sick and injured children. By 2005 the membership of the knitting group doubled in size to 12 members, with the assistance of two volunteers and one staff member.

In 2005, 400 teddy bears were produced. 260 were donated to a charity, ‘Samaritans purse’ and the rest were sold or donated as trauma teddies.

The group has proven to be a real weekly social outlet for the residents who enjoy not only putting their talents to use but who also enjoy the company of others with the same interests and they also have morning tea together.
