Assessment modules

What are assessment modules?

As part of the our program of unannounced visits, we have developed a set of assessment modules to ensure a broad review of each home’s care for residents. These are used at unannounced assessment contacts, and may also be used at announced visits.

This thematic approach to assessment has been developed specifically to identify weaknesses in systems, in order to identify any issues of concern regarding the delivery of care and services to residents and to assist homes to improve their performance against the Accreditation Standards.

An unannounced visit may include assessment using an assessment module, or a combination of modules, and consider information from previous visits. The visit may also include assessment against specific expected outcomes.

What is included in the modules?
Assessment modules are an adjunct to the Results and processes guide(583kb) used by assessors when monitoring the homes’ performance against the Accreditation Standards. They are a tool to assist assessors to focus on the key systems and processes of the homes which ensure quality care and services are provided for residents. Each module links to a broad range of expected outcomes of the Accreditation Standards and, collectively, the assessment modules cover all of the Accreditation Standards.

Resources such as the Assessor handbook(2.97mb) and the Results and processes guide(583kb) continue to be used by assessment teams.

What happens if the team identifies failure to meet the Accreditation Standards?
When an assessment team identifies a number of expected outcomes not being met during an assessment contact, the team leader contacts the local assessment manager or state manager who will determine whether:

  • the team should spend more time on site to assess other areas of the home's care for residents; or
  • we should schedule a full review audit against all 44 expected outcomes using the information gained from the unannounced visit.

How can I access the assessment modules?
There are 11 assessment modules.  These modules are only available for download.
