What we do:
The Accreditation Agency is an Australian company limited by guarantee with the Minister for Mental Health and Ageing as the sole member of the Company.
The Company is subject to the corporations laws and because it is a Commonwealth company, it is also subject to the Commonwealth Authorities and Companies Act 1997.
In 1998, the Accreditation Agency was appointed by the Department of Health and Ageing as the accreditation body under the Aged Care Act 1997 for three years. The Company has been reappointed and the current appointment expires on 31 December, 2013.
As the accreditation body, the Company promotes high quality care in the Australian Government subsidised residential aged care sector. We do this through our management of the accreditation program as set out in the Accreditation Grant Principles 2011 and a comprehensive industry education program.
It is Australian Government policy that the expectations of government are clearly articulated to the boards of government companies. The Government's expectations and the Company's response are set out below.
