What's New

20 December 2007

Welcome to the updated For Assessors section of our website. This section provides consolidated information and resources for assessors on Agency processes and issues relating to assessment and aged care in general. While we have selected the various web links included in this section based on their relevance to the work of assessors, we cannot guarantee the currency of all of the information provided in the links. Further, our inclusion of a link does not indicate that we endorse the content provided by that link. For more information on the Agency’s disclaimer, copyright and privacy policies, click here.

Using this section of the website is simple: just click on the relevant heading in the left-hand margin to gain the necessary information. The section ‘Resources’ contains more than 100 links to other websites. We have kept the search categories broad. This is because links provided contain resource information on a wide range of topics. Links which relate to more than one Accreditation Standard are listed under ‘General Resources’. To find specific materials, we encourage you to select the most likely appropriate link and then search the individual website for the required information. If you have any suggestions or questions about any part of this section of the website, please refer to the ‘Questions’ heading in the left-hand margin.

Some of the most recent updates to the section include:

  • addition of 10 new resource links including the National Training Information Service, Bowel and Bladder Website, Yapunyah - indigenous Health website, and Deafness Forum
  • addition of a link to the Department of Health and Ageing website page showing homes' certification status.
Governance and Accreditation Toolbox
The Agency has developed a Governance and Accreditation Toolbox to help boards better understand their role in monitoring the performance of homes in relation to the Accreditation Standards.

A comprehensive overview of the contents of the toolbox is available. Click here or go to Industry Education for more information.
The presentations from the Assessor 07 Conference are also now available. Click here to access the presentations.

Updates to legislation
Assessors assess compliance against the Accreditation Standards but are not in a position to assess compliance against other legislative frameworks. Rather, it is their role to assess that the home itself undertakes this task. Homes should therefore be able to demonstrate a basic understanding of legislation and regulations relevant to them, and to describe the effects and follow-up actions as a result of any regulatory change.

Issue 3 of the Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine addresses choking and reports evidence-based practices for management of dysphagia/swallowing difficulties. This can be accessed by clicking here.

The Pharmacy Practice Regulations 2007 (SA) have been amended. These include requirements for pharmacies in order to become registered.

The Workers Rehabilitation and Compensation Amendment Act 2007 (Tas) has been enacted. One of the changes requires a summary of the act to be displayed in a prominent place.

We are constantly updating this section to include more information on QAIT sessions, relevant Agency procedures, and useful resources. If you have any suggestions on useful information which could be provided or how to make the section easier to use, please contact us by clicking on the ‘Questions’ or ‘Feedback’ headings in the left-hand margin.
