Better Practice in Aged Care
A series of Better Practice events in all Australian states will assist aged care homes to improve the quality of care they provide to older Australians.
The Aged Care Standards and Accreditation Agency Ltd will host the events in each State during the year. More than 1,500 staff from aged care homes including CEOs, senior management and nurses are expected to attend.
“We began these Better Practice events last year to share innovations and practical ideas about achieving better practice and improving the quality of life for older Australians,” said Chief Executive Officer of the Agency, Mr Mark Brandon.
“It is an opportunity to learn from speakers, from both inside the industry and from allied sectors like hospitality and service sectors, who have shared similar experiences about managing the provision of care, and have a chance to exchange ideas with them,” he said.
All facets of aged care will be covered in the sessions with topics including ethical issues in aged care, quality of life, oral and dental health, dementia, as well as corporate governance and information management.
“In the end, we are hoping that aged care providers and staff at all levels, come away from the Better Practice events with plenty of information that they can put into practice. The result of this is better care for older people,” Mr Brandon said.
More than 99% of previous participants who provided feedback said they would recommend the series to other staff. A 2004 participant said, “A conference that was relevant and well balanced for all people in aged care. The best group of topics at an aged care conference for some years. A well spent two days.”
The first Better Practice event starts in Adelaide on 19 and 20 May.
