Better Practice in Aged Care Awards

What are Better Practice in Aged Care Awards?

The Better Practice in Aged Care Awards are presented for better practice in any program run by a home that benefits the lives of the residents.  Homes may nominate for up to three awards.

Nominations for an award are made at the same time as re-applying for accreditation. There is no fee for nominations. The award is not linked to the accreditation period granted to a home.

To be eligible for the award a home must be:

  • a commonwealth-funded aged care home
  • fully-compliant with the Accreditation Standards for the last 24 months.

What should a submission include?

The submission should be no more than seven pages in total and should be set out clearly under the following headings:

1. Details page - on form provided

2. Is the program based on the findings of research/feedback?

3. Has the program’s effectiveness been measured and monitored?

4. Is the program focused on achieving better outcomes for the residents?

5. Does the program demonstrate evolving and improving, finding the best way of doing things?

6. How does it link with the home’s Continuous Improvement System?

7. A one page summary outlining the home's nominated program.
